Couple: Lorna + David

Date:  14th September 2019

We photograph weddings all over the country which is amazing as we get out and about to see so many wonderful places. It’s somewhat rarer though to photograph a wedding so close to home, so when Lorna and David got in touch to ask us to photograph their wedding at the Strathaven Hotel I was really excited to be photographing at the beautiful hotel a mere five minutes away.

It was a really relaxed day with an emphasis on photographing the day naturally and just capturing the happy couple and their friends and family enjoying the wedding. The weather forecast wasn’t looking great for the day but somehow it stayed dry all day and the wind even stayed away too.

I checked in with Lorna and the girls in the morning and then did my best to drift into the background to capture all the natural moments as everyone was getting ready for the day ahead. Soon David arrived in his awesome Ford Capri with his best man and two dogs. David and his dad built the car together a couple of years back having fully restored it from a rolling chassis, so it was no doubt really special to drive it to his wedding day.

The ceremony was in keeping with the mood of the day and was a relaxed and informal service. The dogs were even right down the front to get the best view in the house, and I must say I don’t think I’ve ever seen two better behaved dogs. Especially considering they are a Lab and a Spaniel :)

I was keen to nip out and get some photos in the countryside with David and Lorna and had a couple of local spots in mind. It was an added bonus that David’s dad gave us all a lift in the Capri as it’s a car I’d most definitely love to own one day! I think it was absolutely worth the wee trip too as we managed to get some of the open countryside into the photography as well as a really cool photo with the Capri between the old railway bridge walls.

After dinner and the speeches, all that was left to do was dance off some of that delicious dinner. And the band certainly knew how to bang out the tunes to keep the dance floor jumping all night long. The perfect end to an amazing, chilled out wedding day!
